Preparations for Shivrajyabhishek Sohala

Preparations for the coronation ceremony had been going on for several months. Nine days before the ceremony, several ceremonies related to the coronation were performed. He was crowned on June 6. On this day, the coronation began by waking up early in the morning, bathing with mantras and rites, and remembering the Kuldevata. Ornaments and clothes were gifted to Gagabhatt and other Brahmins this time too. At this time Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was wearing white clothes. Garlands of flowers were worn around his neck. The two main rituals in the coronation were the anointing of the king and the holding of an umbrella on the head.

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj sat on a gold-plated platform two feet long, and two feet wide, Soyrabai with the tip of a sari on the top of the chair next to him, while Balsanbhajiraje sat slightly behind. The eight pradhans of the Ashtapradhans stood with water bodies brought from various rivers, such as the Ganges. After this, the water body anointed Shivaji Maharaj. At that time, various melodies were being heard in the chanting of mantras and Asamanta. Sixteen gospels poured the Pancharti.

After this, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj wore red clothes. He wore jewels and ornaments. He wore garlands of flowers around his neck. A royal crown was worn. Worshiped his shield, sword, and bow and arrow. Entered the royal throne hall at the time of Muhurat.

According to Hindu tradition, the coronation hall was decorated with 32 Badun symbols. The grand throne of 32 beads of gold was covered with gold sheets, as the member says.. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ascended to the throne. Sixteen Savashnits overthrew them. Brahmins chanted mantras in loud voices. The subjects blessed the I Maharaja. Slogans of ‘Shivraj ki Jai’ ‘Shivraj Ki Jai’ were raised. Gold and silver flowers were blown. Cheers from various percussionists filled the arena. As planned, guns were fired from each fort. The chief priest, Gagabhatta, came forward and placed a pearl chandelier on the king’s head and pronounced ‘Shiv Chhatrapati’.

King Shivaji Maharaj gave a lot of wealth as a gift to all the people. They made sixteen types of Mahadans together. Various ministers then went before the throne and greeted the king. Chhatrapati donated various posts, appointment letters, money, horses, elephants, gems, clothes, and weapons to them on this occasion. After the ceremony was over, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj rode a beautiful horse for the first time to the temple of Jagdishvara.

From there, riding an elephant, their procession started on Raigad. The other two elephants carried Jaripatka and saffron flags as representatives of the army. He was accompanied by Ashtapradhan and other armies. As the procession passed through Raigad, the common people showered flowers, Churmur, blew, and lit lamps. Maharaj returned to the palace after visiting various temples on Raigad.

Consequences of the Coronation

From the day of the coronation, the gazettes of Swarajya started mentioning ‘Kshatriya Kulavatans Shri Raja Shiv Chhatrapati’. Shiva started a new Shaka from the day of his coronation and Shivaraya became the king of Shakkarta this shaka is called ‘Shivrajyabhishek Shaka’. Shivaji dropped coins in his own name in his own self-government. Copper money was called ‘Shivarai’ and gold money was called Shivrai Hon’. In Swarajya, Shivaji officially appointed the Ashtapradhan Mandal and distributed the functions and responsibilities of Swarajya to many Sardars and ministers.
